Adam Burgener, PhD

Adam Burgener is currently the Head of Proteomics at National HIV and Retrovirology Labs at the Public Health Agency of Canada, holds an Assistant Professor position at the University of Manitoba. The central theme of Dr. Burgener’s research program is to understand host and bacterial mechanisms that contribute to HIV transmission and pathogenesis, to guide prevention and therapeutic development. His lab has developed mass-spectrometry based proteomics and systems biology techniques to study mucosal immune systems which play front-line roles in host responses to HIV. His research involves several human populations in Africa, and currently leads a Mucosal Team Grant for HIV Vaccine development study funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to understand mucosal determinants of HIV transmission in women.
