Angela Malaspina received her PhD in Molecular Biology and a Specialization in Clinical Pathology from the University of Genova, Italy. In 1998 she joined the Laboratory of Immune Regulation at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD, as a Guest Researcher first and Senior Research Fellow later, pursuing the investigation of B-cell dysfunctions in the setting of HIV disease. In 2008 she was appointed Immunologist and Science Analyst for the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine of the Vaccine Research Program in the Division of AIDS (DAIDS), NIAID, NIH. Since 2011 Dr. Malaspina became Health Scientist Administrator at DAIDS, interacting with researchers working in areas pertinent to HIV vaccine discovery / development and participating in several cross-programs and cross-agency working groups. In her role as Program Officer and Contracting Officer’s Representative she has developed research initiatives designed to elicit grants and contract proposals from the scientific community. Furthermore she manages a Program Portfolio of different types of Grant Programs. Between 2011 and 2014 she has also organized 4 workshops to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and promote synergistic HIV-1 vaccine research.
