Dr. Juan Berenguer is a Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases at Hospital General Gregorio Marañón, and Head of the HIV Clinical Research Group at the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Gregorio Marañón (IiSGM), Madrid. He studied medicine at the Universidad Complutense, and did his Residency Training in Infectious Diseases at Hospital Ramón y Cajal. He has been Visiting Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD (USA).
Dr. Berenguer is a member of the Steering Committee of the Spanish AIDS Research Network, and Member of the Technical Commission in Infectious Diseases of the Fund for Health Research (FIS) of Spain. He has been President of GeSIDA (Spanish AIDS Study Group), a member of the writing panel of several national clinical practice guidelines on HIV and HCV, and a member of the group of experts of the EACS Guidelines.
He has been Principal Investigator and Collaborator on many Research Projects in the field of HIV and many Therapeutic Clinical Trials of HIV and HCV therapies. His areas of research have covered HIV treatment, opportunistic infections and AIDS-related lymphomas, and liver complications in HIV-infected individuals. Dr. Berenguer has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has authored several books and books chapters.
