Claire Thorne, MSc, PhD

Claire Thorne, PhD is an infectious diseases epidemiologist with a special interest in maternal and child health, based at the University College London Institute of Child Health, UK. She read Human Sciences at Oxford University and then studied for a Masters at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, followed by a PhD in epidemiology in 1998 at UCL.

She has been carrying out research on HIV in pregnant women and children for over 20 years, mainly in Western and Eastern Europe within the PENTA and EuroCoord networks. More recently, her research has included studies of HIV/hepatitis co-infection, hepatitis C and hepatitis B in pregnancy and childhood.
