Imam Waked

Waked, Imam 2017 120Imam WAKED (MB, BCh, MSc, MD, FAASLD) is Professor of Medicine and Hepatology, and Dean Emeritus of the National Liver Institute (NLI) in Egypt. Dr. Waked graduated Cairo University School of Medicine, obtained a Master then a Doctorate degree in Medicine from Ain Shams University, and trained in the liver unit of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. In the NLI, he chaired the Hepatology department, and was the dean of the institute from 2008-2011.

Dr. Waked has more than 90 peer-reviewed publications in international and local journals. He supervised more than 80 Masters and Doctorate theses in hepatology and medicine. Currently he heads the clinical trials unit of the NLI, and is a principle investigator in several clinical trials for HCV treatment and HCC management. He is a member of the Egyptian National Committee for Viral Hepatitis that oversees the Egyptian National program for management of hepatitis C. His fields of interest are acute and chronic hepatitis C and related liver cancer, and portal hypertension and its complications.
