His studies have led to the identification of emerging simian retroviral infections in these populations, the identification of novel simian and human retroviruses, including HTLV-3 and HTLV-4, the development of better diagnostics to support this surveillance, and his research has provided a better understanding of the continuous risk for global retrovirus disease emergence. Mr. Switzer is the recipient of many honors and awards, and has been issued 10 patents for his viral discoveries and inventions. He has co-authored over 90 publications in prominent peer-reviewed journals and text books, including Science, Nature, the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Mr. Switzer is also an invited speaker at major retrovirus, veterinarian, and infectious disease conferences and has presented his research at many national and international meetings.
