Avindra Nath: Natural Course of Neurocognitive Changes in Aging


Avindra Nath, MD is Professor in the Departments of Neurology and Neuroscience the Director of the Division of Neuroimmunology and Neurological Infections and the co-director of the Center for Neuro-AIDS research at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland.


Dr. Nath is the current Chair of the Section for Neuro-infectious diseases of the American Academy of Neurology and the Vice President of the International Society of Neurovirology. He is a senior associate editor of the Journal of Neurovirology. He is a member of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group Translational Research and Drug Development  Committee. He also serves on the immunology panel for the FDA. His research primarily focuses on the neuropathogenesis of HIV infection with a major emphasis on translational research including the development of surrogate markers for HIV associated cognitive disorders and identification of new targets for drug development. His research has been funded by several NIH grants over the last 15 years. He has served as a chair or memeber on several NIH study sections. He has published over 250 manuscripts.
