Carolyn Williamson PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine (IIDMM), University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa. Dr Williamson received her PhD in Microbiology, from the Faculty of Science, University of Cape Town. Carolyn Williamson PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine (IIDMM), University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa.  
 
Dr Williamson received her PhD in Microbiology, from the Faculty of Science, University of Cape Town.  Since then she worked as a Medical Natural Scientist for South African Institute for Medical Research and has been employed by the University of Cape Town (UCT) since 2002. She is head of the HIV Diversity and Pathogenesis Group in the IIDMM, and is a member of numerous research consortia and groups including Centre for AIDS Programme for Research in South Africa (CAPRISA), Centre for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI), Collaboration for AIDS Vaccine Discovery (CAVD), and the African AIDS Vaccine Programme.  Her research focus is on HIV evolution, pathogenesis and vaccine development. 
 
Dr Williamson has organized numerous international workshops and conferences, is a member of a number of international scientific advisory boards.  She has over sixty publications in the field of HIV research.
