Guido Ferrari MD
The use of flow cytometry in resource-poor settings
Guido Ferrari’s work in AIDS research has been focused on investigating T cell and Antibody Dependent Cellular Cytotoxic (ADCC) responses in HIV infected individuals and in HIV seronegative vaccine recipients. He has reported on the induction of cross-clade CD8 T cell responses by candidate AIDS vaccine, on the pattern of immunodominance in vaccine recipients compared to HIV infected individuals, and on the role of poly-functional T cells in protection from infection. He is the investigator for the innate immunity group that focus on ADCC responses within the Center for HIV-AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI). Dr. Ferrari has served as consultant for the WHO/UNAIDS Vaccine Initiative and he has coordinated the organization of several international workshops and symposia for the transfer of ELISPOT and ICS technology to countries with limited resource settings.
