Paul Kellam PhD, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, United Kingdom
Dr Kellam is the Viral Genomics group leader and Senior Investigator at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and a Professor of Viral Pathogenesis at UCL.
Dr Kellam has a degree in Microbiology from Reading University and a PhD investigating HIV drug resistance from the Wellcome Foundation laboratories and Imperial College, London. In 1996 he joined Professor Weiss’s laboratory in the Institute of Cancer Research as a CRC research fellow and moved to UCL in 1999, establishing his own laboratory focusing on how host and pathogen genetic variation and gene expression programs are integrated during disease and host responses to infection. At UCL the Kellam lab investigates how the B-cell transcriptional environment influences the normal and tumour biology of the oncogenic herpesvirus KSHV. In 2009 Dr Kellam was appointed as a Senior Investigator at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. At the Sanger Institute the Kellam laboratory continues its host and virus interaction research and further investigates viral genome variation and the metavirome.
