Host Restriction Factors

Kate Bishop, Ph.D, studied biochemistry at the University of Bath before completing her PhD in virology at the National Institute for Medical Research, UK. Her thesis focused on the retroviral restriction factor, Fv1. She continued her work on viral restriction during her postdoctoral position at King’s College London, investigating the newly identified anti-HIV factor, APOBEC3G. She was awarded a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship in 2004, and
in 2008 she received a Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellowship to start her own research group. She is currently based at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research in London, UK and her main areas of interest include understanding the early stages of retroviral replication, particularly the interactions between retroviruses and their host cells, and investigating the link between XMRV and human disease.
