Laura Guay: Operational Research on PMTCT- Lessons Learned and Gaps

Laura Guay MD, serves as vice president for research at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and research professor at The George Washington University (GWU) School of Public Health and Health Services. Dr. Guay is trained in
Pediatric Infectious Diseases with expertise in research on HIV in women and children in Africa.  She worked on the landmark HIVNET 012 trial, which determined the efficacy of single-dose nevirapine in preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV as well as studies focused on decreasing HIV transmission through breast-feeding including the first trial of an HIV vaccine in infants in Africa.  Dr. Guay served as a member of the US Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator's Expert Panel on PMTCT, the WHO guideline committees for ARV for treating pregnant women and preventing HIV transmission to their infants and infant feeding, and a Pediatric HIV Vaccine Data Monitoring Committee for trials in Kenya and the Gambia.
