Reviews in Antiviral Therapy 3-2007

Pharmacokinetics in an Era of Rapid Antiretroviral Development:
Report from the 8th International Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology of HIV Therapy, April 16-18, 2007, Budapest, Hungary

Written by Mark Mascolini
Clinical comments by Charles Flexner, MD, Professor of Medicine, Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences, and International Health, Johns Hopkins University

Antiretroviral regimen—both individually and globally—has changed more in the past 2 years than at any time since the dawn of potent triple regimens a decade ago. As antiretroviral access improves across the world, offering untreated millions their first chance at therapy, new antiretroviral classes and novel additions to current classes give many multidrug-experienced people their first chance at complete viral suppression in years.

Taking advantage of both trends depends more than ever on understanding the complex interactions between individual antiretrovirals, different antiretroviral classes, and other agents used to treat people with HIV infection. No forum offers HIV pharmacologists and clinicians a better opportunity to present and analyze new pharmacokinetic data than the International Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology of HIV Therapy, held for the eighth time on April 16-18, 2007 in Budapest.

The complete meeting report of the 8th International workshop on Clinical Pharmacology of HIV Therapy is published in Reviews of Antiviral Therapy, volume 3- 2007. The report is accompanied by clincical comments written by Dr. C. Flexner.
