P. Nyren: The history of Pyrosequencing – a second-generation DNA sequencing technology

Paul Nyren, Professor in Biochemistry at the School of Biotechnology Albanova University center, The Royal Institute of Technology. Scientific background in different fields such as bioenergetics, biomembranes, bioluminescence, molecular biology and cell biology. Current fields of interest includes the field of applied
enzymology with focus on development of methods for DNA diagnostics. The highlight has been the development of a new DNA sequencing technology called Pyrosequencing. The Pyrosequencing method is the first available commercial alternative to the well-known Sanger method for de novo DNA sequencing.
Pyrosequencing has been used to map the DNA of mammoths and Neanderthal man - among many other things. Prof Nyren is founder of the company Biotage AB (former Pyrosequencing AB) Uppsala Sweden.
