P. Reiss: HAART, drug toxicities, non-AIDS morbidity and aging


Peter Reiss, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Academic Medical Center (AMC), University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He also serves as Deputy Director of the Dutch National AIDS Therapy Evaluation Center ( NATEC ), which is supported by the Dutch government to coördinate HIV/AIDS clinical trials in the Netherlands. In addition he acts as Scientic Adviser
to the International Amtiviral Evaluation Center (IATEC), likewise based at the AMC in Amsterdam. Dr. Reiss received his M.D. from the University of Amsterdam in 1981. His medical training included electives at Harvard University (Peter Bent Brigham and Children’s hospital in Boston ). He is board certified in Internal Medicine, with a subspecialty in Infectious Diseases.  Dr. Reiss has authored or co-authored over 100 publications, in the field of general infectious diseases and HIV-medicine. He has served on several European and US committees reviewing national HIV Clinical Research programmes, including the ANRS in France and the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) in the United States. He also is a member of both the U.S. Public Heath Service/Infectious Disease Society of America Prevention of Opportunistic Infections and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections Working Groups. His current research interests mainly concern the metabolic and mitochondrial toxicities of anti(retro)viral therapy.
