Dr Anna Maria Geretti is a Consultant Medical Virologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Royal Free Hospital and University College Medical School in London, where she leads the Virology Department and also works as a physician with a specialist interest in HIV medicine and viral hepatitis.
She trained in Italy, the Netherlands, and the UK, and holds an MD in general medicine and a PhD in the virology and immunology of HIV infection. She is a twice-elected member of the British HIV Association (BHIVA) Executive Committee and in 2006-2008 chaired the BHIVA Conferences Committee.
She has recently led the production of the BHIVA Immunisation Guidelines for HIV-infected adults and contributed to the BHIVA Treatment Guidelines for HIV-infected adults.
She is an elected member of the European AIDS Clinical Society Executive Committee. Her current research interests are primarily focused on antiretroviral therapy, drug resistance, and viral co-infections.
She serves on the editorial boards of The Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and is an advisor to the British National Formulary and the World Health Organisation.
She has published over 70 articles and book chapters, and has edited an international textbook on antiretroviral resistance. Dr Geretti actively shares her expertise in the training of junior doctors, and of doctoral and post-doctoral scientists.
