Update and Controversies in Pediatric Virology

Website foto de Rossi

Anita De Rossi , PhD. is Professor of Pathology, Head of Viral Oncology Unit and AIDS Reference Center, Medical School, University of Padova. Dr De Rossi has been working at the National Cancer Institute, NIH, Bethesda, USA, Laboratory of Viral Carcinogenesis (Prof. P Fischinger, Head), and Laboratory of Tumor Cell Biology ( Prof. R. Gallo, Head).
Dr. Anita  De Rossi has been working in the field of mother-to-child HIV transmission since 1984. Her studies on this field address the virological and immunological correlates of pediatric disease outcome; cellular host range of HIV infection, host factors interfering with HIV infection and/or disease progression; virological and immunological  correlates of efficacy of antiretroviral therapy. Her studies are some of the first to indicate  that  HIV infection from mother-to-child mainly occurs during  the intrapartum period and that host factors may restrict HIV infection.
She has been participating in the European Collaborative Study on mother-to-child HIV transmission since 1986, and she has been a  member of virology-immunology Committee of the  Pediatric European Network for treatment of AIDS (PENTA) since 1991.  She is head of a laboratory that serves as a national reference center for the diagnosis and monitoring of infection by HIV and other retroviruses since 1986.
