Dr. James Hakim MD, is Chairman of the Department Medicine at the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences in Harare. He is an internal medicine specialist and a clinical epidemiologist at the University. He has worked collaboratively with colleagues at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Centre and University of California, San Francisco to establish an AIDS research and care program in Zimbabwe over the past 6 years. Dr Hakim has been on the faculty of the University of Zimbabwe since 1992. Following graduation from Makerere University Medical School in Uganda he undertook specialization in internal medicine at the University of Nairobi, Kenya and the Royal Colleges of Physicians in the United Kingdom. He later received training as a clinical epidemiologist with the University of Newcastle, Australia.
