Joep M.A. Lange, MD, PhD † was a Professor of Medicine at the Academic Medical Center (AMC), University of Amsterdam, where he headed the Department of Global Health, until his tragic death in the airplane crash on 17 Juy 2014.
Professoe Lange also served as Chairman of PharmAccess Foundation and as Scientific Advisor to the Board of the Health Insurance Fund Foundation (which pioneers mechanisms of sustainable financing of health care in resource-poor settings).
Dr. Lange was involved in HIV research and treatment since 1983. He was the architect and principal investigator of several pivotal trials on antiretroviral therapy and prevention of mother-to-child transmission in both the developed and developing world.
