Dr. Juan A. Pineda earned his medical degree and his PhD at the University of Seville (Spain). He completed his training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases in the Internal Medicine Department of the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital in Seville and in the Liver Transplantation Department of the Presbyterian Hospital, in Pittsburgh (PA, USA). Currently, he is a consultant on viral hepatitis and HIV infection in the Infectious Diseases Unit of the Valme University Hospital in Seville and associate professor of Medicine in the University of Seville. He is also a member of the Board of the Viral Hepatitis Study Group of the Spanish Society for Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology. He has been working in viral hepatitis and HIV infection since 1983 and has published over 300 papers in peer-reviewed medical journals with an impact factor greater than 1200. He has been the main investigator in more than 30 research projects with competitive funding.
