Kasonde Bowa is Professor of Urology at the Copperbelt University School of Medicine in Ndola Zambia. He holds the Basic Medical degree from the University of Zambia(1990), a Master of Science in Anatomy from Scotland (1994)and the Master Medicine in Surgery from UNZA(2000).
He is a fellow of the Royal college Surgeons of Glasgow 2002, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons 2006.
He holds the FCS(Urology) 2009 from the College of Surgeons of East and Central Africa. He also holds a Diploma in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine 2010.
Prof. Bowa has worked for 21 years at the University of Zambia school of Medicine. He worked as Assistant Dean Postgraduate at the University for 6years, until his appointment as Founding Dean of the Copperbelt University School of Medicine at Ndola in April 2011, only the second public Medical School in Zambia.
Prof. Bowa has over 10 local, regional and international awards. He has over 50 peer reviewed publications and over 100 podium presentations. Prof Bowa has been involved in Male Circumcision for HIV prevention for over 10years. He has been involved in the writing above the WHO guidance documents in Male Circumcision training, Neonatal Male Circumcision training and Male Circumcision Devices.
Prof. Bowa is a member of the American Urological Association technical advisory committee on Male Circumcision and the WHO committee of Experts on Male Circumcision devices.
He has been involved in Male Circumcision research on adult and Neonatal devices in Zambia and has spoken at several fora as an invited expert speaker for the Southern African Development Conference (SADC) parliamentary forum and the council of Ministers of Health.
He has been a consultant on Male circumcision for SADC,SAT,UNICEF,JHPIEGO,FHI,SFH and WHO.
