Rui Manuel do Rosário Sarmento e Castro finished his degree in Medicine in the University of Oporto in 1980. He finished his Master’s Degree in Public Health in the University of Oporto, in November 1999. He concluded his PhD in the field of Infectious Diseases in the University of Oporto, in October 2005.He is the Clinical Director of Hospital Joaquim Urbano, in Oporto, and the Infectious Diseases Department Head of this Hospital. He is Professor of the Health Sciences School of University of Minho. He is voluntary Professor of the Faculty of Medicine of Porto and ICBAS.President of the Portuguese Association for the Clinical Study of AIDS.President of the Portuguese Study Group on HIV-Hepatitis Coinfection.Past President of the Portuguese Society of Infection Diseases and Clinical Microbiology.He is one of the founders of the Portuguese Association for the Clinical Study of AIDS.He was Adviser in the field the Infectious Diseases to the Administration Council of the North Health Regional Administration. He was member of the Directorship of his Specialty Council.
