Vincent Soriano, MD, PhD received his medical degree at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, when he subsequently did his specialty in Internal Medicine. After a post-doc stage at the FDA (Bethesda, MD, USA), he returned to Spain and joined the Department of Infectious Diseases at Hospital Carlos III in Madrid, where since 1999 he is the Assistant Director. His expertise has focused mainly in viral infections, mainly HIV and viral hepatitis. He is the Editor-in-Chief of AIDS Reviews, an international peer-reviewed journal focused on HIV research (impact factor 4). His team has produced more than 800 publications in international journals. His team has ranked within the first ten in the world in terms of impact factor in scientific publications in the field of HIV infection (www.aidshivresearch.com). Currently, he is assisting the National AIDS Programme in Spain and is the editor of Manual del SIDA, a reference textbook of HIV/AIDS for Spanish-speaking countries. He chairs the International Hepatitis & HIV Coinfection Panel. Finally, he has been involved as expert in clinical, epidemiological and research projects related to emerging viral illnesses at national level, as it occurred with SARS and more recently with H1N1 influenza.
