Appolinaire Tiam, MBChB, DipHIVMan, MMed, currently serves as Country Director for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation in Lesotho. Before this position he had served in the Foundation as Senior Technical Advisor then Technical Director for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation in Lesotho. In his role, Dr. Tiam leads the Country senior management team in overseeing the implementation of HIV services and management of EGPAF-Lesotho technical staff under the CDC and USAID funded Projects.
Dr. Tiam is a recognized HIV/AIDS technical expert with demonstrated experience overseeing the technical implementation of integrated HIV/AIDS service delivery projects. Dr. Tiam has been working in Lesotho since 2005 and brings necessary technical expertise with a strong understanding of integrated HIV/AIDS programming in Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, Dr. Tiam has worked closely with the MOH, providing Technical Assistance in policy, guidelines and curriculum formulation and roll-out. He worked with team to pioneer integration of PMTCT in maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH) services; integration of early infant diagnosis and early initiation of HIV infected on ART in MNCH.
He currently leads technical and managerial activities under EGPAF’s PEPFAR funded projects to scale up of comprehensive HIV care and Treatment services in the whole of Lesotho and ensuring compliance with national guidelines at supported sites. He serves as co-chair of HIV care and treatment and PMTCT Technical working groups. He is also Principal Investigator and co-investigator on several operation researches. He has presented and published his research work internationally. Dr. Tiam received his Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from the Ogun State University in Nigeria, a Diploma in HIV Management from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and he also completed specialty training with Masters in Family Medicine from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.
