Dr. Gail Matthews trained as an HIV/sexual health specialist in London and subsequently as an Infectious diseases Physician in Australia. She currently holds a position as a clinical academic in HIV/Infectious Diseases at St Vincent’s Hospital and is a associate professor in the Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program. She has a particular interest in HIV/ viral hepatitis coinfection and completed her PhD on therapeutic strategies in HIV/HBV coinfection.
Her general areas of interest include therapeutic research in the fields of viral hepatitis (hepatitis B and hepatitis C) and HIV, with a particular focus on individuals with viral hepatitis/ HIV coinfection. Specific areas of research interest include acute hepatitis C infection, antiviral resistance and HIV-HBV coinfection.
Her research area includes HIV - AIDS, Clinical Research, Infectious Diseases and Gastrointestinal Diseases.
She is a member of Australian Society of Infectious Diseases (ASID), Australian Society for HIV Medicine (ASHM), Fellow Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Member Royal College of Physicians UK (London).
