Dr. Maribel Acevedo-Quiñones received her medical degree from San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Acevedo-Quiñones was appointed as President of the Puerto Rico HIV Medical Treaters Association (HIVTMD) in 2017. Also, she is an active member of the Advisory Council on LGBTQ Affairs for the Government of Puerto Rico, a Faculty Member of AIDS Educational Training Center (US Southeastern and Caribbean Region), and member of TransECHO, as part of the National LGBT Health Education Center of Fenway Institute (Chicago).
Dr. Acevedo-Quiñones’ ample experience in providing health care for people living with HIV focuses specifically on the trans-experience population. At Centro Ararat, she leads the Medical Team of Translucent Clinic, the most complete healthcare facility in Puerto Rico that provides integrated services to the Trans community.
Besides transgender healthcare, other research interests include HIV- Hep C comorbidities and integrated health care for women living with HIV (including pregnancies). She has worked with community-based projects and public health care services aimed at homeless persons and youth living with HIV.
Due to her extraordinary experience and her personal commitment, Dr. Maribel Acevedo-Quiñones promotes a significant reduction in stigma associated with HIV and the persons who live with the virus. She keeps actively working in different scenarios to provide more visibility to the LGBTQ community and a sensitive, equal treatment towards the Transgender population in Puerto Rico.
