Dr. Robert de Knegt studied medicine at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. After graduation in 1987 he worked on his thesis about hepatic encephalopathy (1993). Meanwhile he already started his training in Internal medicine (Westeinde Hospital, the Hague and Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands). After that he continued his medical training in Gastroenterology & Hepatology (Groningen University Medical Center, the Netherlands). Until 2003 he worked there as a staff member in the Liver Transplant team. In 2003 he started as consultant in the Erasmus MC University Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
His major interests are viral hepatitis and abdominal sonography. He is a member of several medical societies, among which the Dutch Association for the Study of Liver diseases, the European Association for the Study of Liver Diseases EASL, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases AASLD, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Ultraschall in der Medizin DEGUM.
