Dr. Becker is currently the Chief Scientific and Medical Officer for BryoLogyx Inc. His work there focuses on the application of bryostatin, and related compounds in the fields of oncology and HIV.
His previous work experience includes more than 6 years at the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation in the HIV and the Discovery & Translational Medicines groups where he led programs for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, treatment optimization, HIV cure and the interface between genital tract immunology and HIV acquisition.
Before joining the foundation, Dr. Becker worked as a faculty member at the University of California, San Francisco 25 years as an academic clinician and clinical researcher. In 2005 he joined the biotechnology industry where he served as Chief Medical Officer and led development teams for two novel classes of antiretroviral agents.
Dr. Becker received his undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania, and his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine following training at the Cook County Hospital. He had fellowship training as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the joint program of the University of California, San Francisco and Stanford University Medical Schools. He joined the faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco following completion of his fellowship.
