Dr. Cummings is the Founding Director of San Francisco Coordinating Center (SFCC), which leads and coordinates several large multi-center cohort studies and clinical trials in osteoporosis and aging. He is a Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of California, San Francisco and Senior Scientist at the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute. For over 20 years he has led the National Institute of Aging “Longevity Consortium,” collaboration of basic and clinical scientists devoted to understanding the genetic and biological basis of human aging. He has published over 500 original clinical research articles. Dr. Cummings has been elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences for his work in clinical research.
